Privacy Policy
Effective Date: January 1, 2026 · Last Updated: January 1, 2026
Plain-language summary: Summit is built offline-first. Your summit logs, peak data, and usage all stay on your device by default. We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. The data we do collect is minimal and used only to operate the app and process payments.
1. Who We Are
Summit is a mobile application developed and operated by Alpenglow Developers LLC, a Colorado limited liability company ("we," "us," or "our"). You can reach us at legal@alpenglow.dev.
2. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account information (if applicable): email address used to create an account or restore purchases.
- Summit logs: peak name, date of ascent, notes, conditions, and photos you choose to record. Stored locally on your device.
- Support communications: any information you include when contacting us at support@alpenglow.dev.
Information Collected Automatically
- Device location: used in-app to show your position relative to nearby peaks. Only accessed while the app is in use. Not transmitted to our servers.
- Crash and diagnostic data: anonymized crash reports may be collected via Apple or Google platform services to help us fix bugs.
- Purchase receipts: processed by Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive confirmation of subscription status but not your payment card details.
- Analytics (if enabled): anonymized feature usage data (e.g., which peak lists are viewed most) to improve the app. No personally identifiable information is included.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your name unless you voluntarily provide it.
- We do not store your location history on our servers.
- We do not access your contacts, camera roll, or microphone except when you explicitly use in-app features (e.g., attaching a summit photo).
- We do not sell your data to third parties — ever.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To operate and improve the Summit application
- To process and manage your subscription
- To respond to support requests
- To diagnose crashes and improve app stability
- To comply with legal obligations
4. Data Storage & Security
Your summit logs and peak data are stored locally on your device using SQLite. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly use a backup or sync feature (if offered in a future version).
Any data transmitted to our servers (e.g., for account authentication or analytics) is encrypted in transit using TLS. We implement industry-standard security practices, though no system can guarantee absolute security.
5. Third-Party Services
Summit integrates with the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Apple App Store / StoreKit — subscription management on iOS
- Google Play Billing — subscription management on Android
- RevenueCat — cross-platform subscription status management. See revenuecat.com/privacy
- Mapbox — map rendering. Tile requests may be logged by Mapbox. See mapbox.com/legal/privacy
Peak data is sourced from OpenStreetMap, which is publicly available under the Open Database License. No personal data is shared with OpenStreetMap.
6. Children's Privacy
Summit is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at legal@alpenglow.dev and we will delete it promptly.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights including access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at legal@alpenglow.dev. Because most data is stored locally on your device, deleting the app will remove the majority of data we have associated with you.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notice or email (if you have provided one). The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
